No, it needs a good internal battery to hold the memory.

Sorry, Joe. I moved to a new QTH just last week, and my dead
PCS-4000 (bad microprocessor) and it's manual and schematics now
sleep with the used kitty litter. I held on to it for several
years -- hoping someone here would make just such an inquiry.
If it wasn't for bad luck, some of us wouldn't have any luck at all.
