I can think of a couple more. One reason would be
to achieve a reasonably good match to the antenna
on more than one band using coax and no transmatch.
Another reason is that an off-center-fed dipole tends
to have a broader SWR curve than a center-fed dipole
(coax feed and single-band operation assumed).
