For a fairly sensitive portable on a short whip this may be is not that
important. Otherwise:YES.
My NRD-525 fits my needs just fine.
Also does the Sony 2010 off the whip. But NO comparison to the NRD-525.
On my FD-4 the 2010 surely needs a preselector The Yaesu FRT-7700 does
it fine there.
We were travelling light. I've damaged other radios travelling before so
have decided to take little versus big. You are very correct that
selectivity would help. The opposite problem for my situation at home
where I need to have a long wire and good noise filtering.
