interesting variation in the DA5
After reading the post by Guy Kudlemyer I decided
to open the feritte loop in my DA5. I was puzzled
to see the feritte rod is slightly different then
the replacement that I ordered back in ~1974. The
replacment is 12" long, 3/4" diam, and has a 1/8"
hole runing down the center through the entier
length.
The DA5 has a slightly shorter, 11 7/8", 3/4"
feritte rod, with the 1/8" lengthwise center
hole, but it also has a ~0.10" slot from the
edge to the center hole.
It also has two coils. the larger is near the
center, and the other is a 6 turn that is not
connected.
Saturday I hope to wire them in series and see
if this will lower the tuning range to 150~300KHz
as with the DA7.
The serial mumber is DA50001039 so my guess is
this is a 2nd run. I have trouble accepting they
sold more then a few hundred of these units. The
"1039" is in a slightly lower position.
It would be too much to expect the unit to only
need a switch. While I modified the tuner unit to
operate from an external +12V I never had a reason
to open the loop.
