Wayne:

When you are out and about, and happen to run into a trucker, start a bit of
chat about linears and such... most all of the truckers run linears... they
can give ya the skivvy on it all...

There was a time back during the 70's and into the 80's when cb antennas were
quite common on autos about, the fad faded, most of they ended up running
linears...

When you find you need a bit more range, remember the linear is your best
friend, but a good antenna is paramount to increased range also!

John Smith suggested your TX75 or TX100 would serve me well when I

receive
the Radio Shack Emergency Road radio with its 40 channels... I don't have

a
clue as to what they are except they are supposed to boost power and

range?

Amplifiers for CB radio are illegal. It's not likely you will ever get
caught but if you do the fine is typically several -thousand- dollars.
If that doesn't bother you, fine. Also be aware that most CB amps
(including the Palomar amps listed above) usually cause interference
with nearby television receivers (your voice will be heard and the
picture will be screwed up). They also splatter onto other channels on
the Citizen's Band (if you listen to others on the CB for a few hours
you will hear what I mean). A device called a "low-pass filter" can
reduce the noise through the television but does nothing to prevent
splatter. Another thing to know is that an amp increases -only- your
transmit range, and not by much -- they don't improve your receive at
all. The only thing that will improve both transmit -and- receive is a
better antenna.
