The older Sony sets were neat because you could switch between decoding
systems ... which sometimes helped in using them as AM DX sets rather than
just stereo receivers. Problem is, as you've discovered, there is less and
less stereo broadcasting to listen to. I wonder what's happening in Japan,
where AM stereo was booming and there were multiple receivers on the
market (including super digital portables from Sony and AIWA). Those sets
are off the market and they don't seem to have replaced them.
