I've been trying to find "Lucky" who purchased one of these receivers
some time ago. Have any of you had experience with this receiver in
terms of sensitivity, selectivity, intermod problems, etc. I'm looking
for something for my field outings that is small but offers better
performance characteristics than the typical portables like the
ATS909/DX-398 and/or the Grundig/Sony/Kaito stuff. I am familiar with
its tuning and control characteristics but any comments by an
experienced user would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Frank

OK, this is truly a beginners radio. In my opinion, I don't recommend it
except as a simple MW/SW radio. SSB is OK on good signals but all it has is
a BFO "clarify" dial that is too sensitive it seems at times or doesn't help
a lot in others.

It cannot do ECSS by ANY means. You must use the internal speaker unless you
get the HF3/P where it has a line out. Mine is Nav-fax 100 with a Sitex
label even though it said "HP3/P" It's just a HF3 period. If you want the
one with a output you'll have to get it off Ebay or the U.K. I have seen
them on Ebay recently. Unless you cough up the money for the Nav fax 200
that lots more money.

All it has is an attenuator that does work alright. It's very prone to EMI
and RFI. Lots of static. It's prone to splatter on the too wide SSB filter.
Doesn't sound loud enough for me. I think I killed one using a pre amp on
it. At least Pete from RSS told me it probably was that. I got a replacement
though.

Now if all you want to hear is some SW or
Hams in the sticks where it's quiet with no garbage in the area, you're OK.
It is well made though and the knob is fun to spin but overload may be a
problem too.

I paid $150 for it. If it had an speaker output I would use it more. But it
is fun to play with and does have separate USB and LSB. MW/SW is what's it's
mainly for though.

I feel it's worth $100 no more. Hope this helps.
