Why would you want a paper-weight that only morphs into a radio when
you pay some corporation at least $10 a month according to some
contractual obligation that reminds me of a mob "protection racket"?
In comparison, you can buy a $10 radio (that is always a radio) and
doesn't contractually require you to cough-up money every month. You
remind me of those folks that are out there buying Hummers when gas
is at $3/gallon. Why do they buy them? Not for function or feature,
but simply for form -- it's merely social plumage. Your satellite
radio's primary purpose is to make you feel "Hep". After that, you
will justify the idiocy of contractually paying for radio- reception
by various other "Yeah, So What?" reasons...

LOL! So what are you smoking?
If you really tried it, I doubt you would post something like the
above.
I got to listen to a co-workers set for a bit (involuntarily) and my
post still stands. Is it a clean, clear signal? Yep! Do you have a
bazillion stations available? Yep! Is it "all that and a bag of chips"?
I think not. Is it worth being stuck in a contract and paying more
money than it's worth
every month? I don't personally think so. If I want to hear an "All
Blues" channel, I'll burn an mp3 cd with a couple hundred songs on it.
Done!
Well worth the 13 bucks a month just to keep from having to listen to
the same crap played over and over and over again on the local
stations owned by only two companies.
Ok, I'll allow that it's perceived value is a personal decision. After
all,
some folks *pay* to have their eyebrow pierced! I'm sure those urban
Hummer
drivers think 10 MPG is worth it too. My opinion varies...
Not to mention one of them has an admitted
distortion on the right channel that drives me and a bunch of other
people nuts, and their crack engineering staff can't seem to put two
and two together and realize that it only happens when a certain piece
of equipmnet is used, basically it's every other song that has it.
Figures that it's an oldies station, and I can tolerate what they
play..
Well, if there's some station I want to tune and I can't receive it
over the air, but a satellite radio *can*, I think I would just do
without that station. I can't justify being locked into a contract for
6 or more months because I want to hear the "All Mr. Bojangles"
channel, or whatever. But, that's just *me*. Ya'll enjoy it -- I will
continue to consider it a curiosity, much like encountering a street
mime, but with sound...

XM has no contract and you can pay monthly. XM and Sirius both have 3
day free trials online to see if you like it first. XM also has a
streaming audio service for $8 a month. If you don't like commericals
and they irratate you, you pay to eliminate them just as in cable TV.
They also have music broken up into decades. So, if you wish to listen
to 40's or 50's style music all day and night, you can with no
commercials. So for some, $13 a month is nothing but of course it adds
up to $156 a year. I don't have it yet but may get XM since my Eton E1
is ready for it. I'll try it for a month *maybe. If I don't like it, I
don't continue with it that's all.
Lucky
I honestly haven't seen an offer that didn't require a contract if they
provided the hardware. Does the XM service throw in a low-end receiver, or
do you have to buy that seperately?
