Just what is a "corporate company?" A company, by definition, is a
corporation and most radio stations have been incorporated since the idea of
a proprietorship became legally so risky back 50 or so years ago.

company has approved of your request as being "important" enough to be fit
in during the day, evening, or weekend playlist.

Since Mr. Marconi was in radio, very few stations have taken requests.
Usually, and this goes back to music stations in the 50's, the playlist is
predefined and preprogrammed. No self respecting PD is going to let one
listener whose only qualification is owning a phone tell him what to play.
It may come as a surprise, but most "requests" are recorded and played as
part of a preprogrammed song when it is time to play it.

If you want to hear Avril Lavigne, Coldplay or some other current artists,
then you will get your song played.

Nope. Those get played anyway, so the station records a listener requesting
thesong, and drops the recording over the intro when it comes time to spin
that tune.

If you want to hear the Stones, LeD Zeppelin, or Hendrix, then hold the
phone away from your ear when you get disconnected.

If you call a station that plays Coldplay or Avril, you will not get them to
play Zeppelin and friends... two different formats, two different demos. You
are obviously calling the wrong stations.

DISCRIMINATION against listeners!

Requests are not required by law, and are bad programming.
