Default Need advice on an Amp

Hi,

I have a Cobra 29 LTD Classic that i use on the road. I bought it a
year ago just for listening and now I have met a few pals and would
like to be able to talk to them more. My problem is that this radio is
untouched. No mods or anything. I've been told thats a good thing. I
was told rather than have it tuned I should just get an amp.

Could someone tell me seriously what I need to have done to this radio
for me to be able to transmit and receive further? It's nothing fancy
just a Cobra 29 LTD Classic, Stock Mic, and a Wilson 1000 antenna.

You simply need to turn the AM deadkey down to about 2 watts. Most amps will not
allow more than 4 watts input. Some are HD (high drive) amps that will allow up
to 12 watts. But that is all you have to do. No mods or clipping.

Money coming soon, and I plan to do whatever needed as long as it's
not very expensive to get this radio up and running better than it is
now. I hope someone can help me out, and point me to a good site that
I can purchase this AMP from at a reasonable price.

I have a Palomar 225, which you can get for under $100. Works fine. I have heard
Texas Star being the best quality of the small amps. They make a HD model.
