Default Knob Help

I remember I once had this same problem with the Cobra 148 GTL. I think
the reason why they made all of the knobs this way was because they were
probably competing with am/fm stereos radio during the disco era, that
had fine looking knobs.

Perhaps these may had been the first radios, when expensive shinny
looking machine made knobs became the new style.

When you look back to the Hammarlund, Grundig and Hallicrafters you see
a big difference in the style of knobs. Vanity vs performance!

I wonder if this was a break off from the Puritanical style, as you
would notice in furniture.

Although having a lighted red needle is very cool too!

I have a President Washington CB. The am, lsb, usb knob or button is
hard to turn. Their nothing wrong with the knob. Maybe only the
design. It too round and I can not get a good grip on it. Often I use a
cloth to grip it to turn.

Now, I am thinking about taking off the knob and replacing it with a
chicken head or what ever more narrow knob I would find.

I would like to know if I could simply use a small flat driver and pry
off the knob?

I hope that I do not have to open up the radio.

The knob may just lift off, or it may have a set screw that must be backed
off before removing the knob.
