Long time no hear from you, hope all is well.

Easy to talk about... not so easy to do in actual practice.

Maybe not, maybe the 4CX800 tubes Pi vs G1v curve maynot need a step up
transformer. I have not looked at it,ascompared to the 4CX250 tube.

: Allowing a stock radio to drive the amp to its full output,

Wouldn't it be better or best to drive the amplifier with a
converted ham radio? Better performance all around...

Yes it would. But I would want the capibility to use both type of
radios, low and high drive.

: PLUS! But the Pride DX-300 only uses a single 4CX250, with
: a 500 to 700 watt output with a fresh tube.

Not in any case... you can't really get more than 310 watts
RMS clean output from the Pride DX-300. Both the power supply
and the tube will die a dirty death on the air... Blood from
a turnip doesn't happen.

Have you got any spectrum measuremnents on that? I would love to see
that. But I know most are driving the Pride amps to 500 and more output.
And the power supply is handling it. I know the power transformer is
rated at 1800V at 500Ma. Good for over 700 watts out.

: Or maybe ya could put a set of 4CX800 Tubes in a Pride DX-300 with a
: separate power supply, now that I would pay to see. Or a set of 4CX400
: Tubes, another great project!

Not worth it... not enough cooling to start off with.

Agreed, but all new componets would have to be used. A friend down the
road a ways has modified his Pride 300 using a 8930 Tube, which is a
military spec'ed 4cx250R Tube, and installed a larger blower. Neat-O
stuff!

Gas was really high priced last time I went through... :-)

cheers,

Yeah the Gas prices out here are insane.

Jay in the Great Mojave Desert, .... just down the road ah ways from
the fillin station.

Miss Dinah down at the fillin station, says that gas prices are slowly
going down, but not as fast as they went up!
