Yes, I see your point. But when you order the Pizza, the Pizza Shop does
not use your radio to prepare the Pizza. That is why I placed the caveat.
In this case DirectWay is using the ham equipment to reprogram a receiver
that has gone a wandering. I do not know if there is a difference there,
but before I did it I would; 1. do some serious research and see if there
was a definitive answer; 2. see if I couldn't find another way to do it.

All of that is a moot point. It won't work to begin with.

End of story.

Non-commercial to you perhaps. Not so non-commercial to DirectWay. I
would find another way if it were me. And I definitely would have the
permission of the repeater trustee is I decided to go ahead anyway. He
might take a dim view of the fine he had to pay if the FCC and I see

this
matter the same way. Admittedly worst case scenario but accountants
(except those at Enron) are trained to anticipate all losses and

provide
for no gains.

With the relaxed rules such as ordering a pizza legal now I do not see

any
problems with this as all he is doing is ordering a service and the

regular
telephone is not possiable. I do agree he should talk it over with the
repeater trustee.

One big problem is that it will not be full duplex and will probably be
limited to 2400 baud depending on the band. Maybe 9600 on a good day on

a
good band and radio. The duplex problem could also be overcome but will
take some work unless the repeater will crossband.
