Kaito 1101 vs 1102/1103
John: The 1101 uses three batteries and as I mentioned they last a
long time. I have discovered, however , that the top battery seems to
run down about twice as fast as the two that lie further down. Every
time the radio quits I find that the two good batteries are only 1/2
exhausted. The third battery is dead. Generally I find a half dead
battery and pop it in and I'm good to go for a long time.
I did the same as you with regards to the 1103. I got some
Energizer 2500 ma nimh batteries and they do me for about a month of
erratic useage ( maybe an hour a day, I am not certain). I didn't
time the alkalines I used the first time but I checked them on the
multimeter before I inserted them and then checked again after about 5
hours use and found that they were down significantly.
I have used the Kaito supplied AC adapter and it works OK for
MW and some of the ham bands but introduces a hum on the 9 mHz band.
It also allows noise from the powerlines into the radio and markedly
increases background noise.
