Don't try for specific frequencies at this point, but just tune around
the major shortwave bands. Skip the external antenna for now and just
try to position yourself near a window and away from the pc and wifi.

Try the following:

5.8 to 6.3 mhz in the evenings.
7.1 to 7.5mhz in the evenings and mornings.
9.5 to 10.0 mhz in the evenings and mornings.

And since you are on the east coast try 9580 in the early morning
hours, say 6:00 to 8:00 for Radio Australia direct from down under.

Be sure and post your results...hopefully you will hear a bunch of
signals, especially around 6.0mhz at night.

What might ALSO help is opening the window a crack & sticking the whip
antenna out..

tried 9.580 at 13:40 UTC.. got a thready weak signal, UNTIL I opened
the window & started moving the whip around..

The very strongest signal ( using a Degen DE1105 ) appears whe you
point the antenna NE ( checked with a compass..)

- Which means the Radio Australia signal is bouncing down from he
Southeast ( or northwest)

Try this with your 505, I'm sure you'll get results
