The spirit of Ham Radio is doing the technical things for
yourself.

Anything else is CB Radio, perhaps in its insidious form of
the CBer-Masquerading-As-A-Radio-Ham

Perhaps those who replied below are closet CBers - did they
buy their rigs off-the-shelf and do they send them back to be repaired?

There is some connection there. Admittedly, the idea that you have to be a
programmer to be a "real ham" is pretty stupid, but that does not take

away
from the fact that many good hams are programmers.
