Oh my...so many possibilities:

Best modern tabletop: Kenwood R5000
Best modern portatop: Panasonic RF-B 600
Best modern portable: Degen DE1103
Best older tabletop: National HRO 500
Best older luggable: Panasonic RF-5000

The receiver that gets used the most is the DE1103.
