"Christian Vision has acquired the former Radio Australia facility at
Cox Peninsula near Darwin, Australia," Flynn says. "This facility
includes a Thomson 2320 (300kW), two Thomson 2326 (250kW) and three
Collins 821A (250kW). By way of antennas there are 7 TCI 611 slewable
curtains pointing in an arc across Asia, giving superb coverage to that

region. Christian Voice Australia provides English services to targets
in Asia, with services in Hindi and Mandarin to follow."

( feh !)

Isn't this old news?

Back in 1997 the little Grey Man (Prime Minister John Howard) kicked
the stuffing out of the ABC by slashing its budgets (dropping the French
service and any tranmissions not targeted at Asia/Pacific) and leasing the
newly refurbished Darwin site to his Christian buddies at a sweetheart
lease rate. (I think that you could be prosecuted for corruption for
that sort of deal in the US). Howard made some remarks to the effect
that the government didn't need to be in the news business and that
people overseas could just watch CNN. Didn't work out well and was a
bit of a foreign policy stumble, and after cutting back their schedule,
they went back and increased their transmit schedule by hiring the Darwin
transmitters a year or two later.

There is another shortwave site that another outfit just built down
there in the last year or so, but I don't remember the details. I
think it's connected to HCJB.
