Default FT-757 GXII alignment....

Not so much "avoided", more a case of being too lazy or too
stupid, or both, to be able to tackle and pass a test targetted
at 14-year-olds and which 14-year-olds were taking in their stride?

Wasn't that the same person who avoided taking a trivially simple
Morse test for 20-odd years and then used the farcical M3 route in
order to get on HF?
