As it turns out, the unusual signal that I was getting in the MW band
(that's the part that you need to pay attention to) was an image or
spurious
signal resulting from a SW band transmission, and was caused by an
inferior
receiver. I didn't know that when I posted here, but thanks to in part
Doug
Smith I now understand what's going on. If I had posted my "Why am I
receiving at 1615 MW?" question in the shortwave group, no doubt your
doppleganger over there would have jumped my ass for an off-topic post
since -clearly- it was a MW question. I can continue, if you'd like.

Oh yes, please do go on.

Only since you've asked so nicely, Hank.

Was it a spur, was it the actual signal?

Gee. I answered that question already. How'd you miss it? Being new, I'm
going to have to trust everyone that tells me that even though I received it
on MW that it was in actuality an SW transmission, and not the actual MW
after all, espacillay since what I'm being told makes sense. (Darn.) The
whole point of this thread is that I didn't knowingly make a post to an
inappropriate newsgroup. I believed that I was receiving an MW broadcast,
and so I came to the dx group to verify that. It turns out that I was wrong.
I didn't post my questions to the SW group because based on the evidence at
hand, -that- would have been an off-topic post. I generally try pretty hard
to follow netiquette.

Have you heard it again? At what times?

I heard it again the following night at 0650 UTC. It's about that time now,
and I'm not receiving anything on 1615.

Did you get station ID?

I'm afraid I didn't. As I pointed out, the signal faded before I could. You
must have missed that statement as well. ;/

In spite of the lack of an on-air ID I was able to tell that it was Gene
Scott based on several statements that he made, and some research on the
web.

What were you hearing on 160 at the time?

If you mean 1600 (remember, I'm new) I was probably receiving KVRI out of
Blaine. I don't recall specifically. I checked the band on either side of
1615, though, which is where I think you're heading. Whatever I found on
either side, it was different than what I heard on 1615. Otherwise, I
wouldn't have come here in the first place. I'm not -that- much of a newbie.
And let me thank you for the help you've offered me, Hank. You've made this
poor rookie feel right at home.
