Yes, I was watching an old episode if the Andy Griffith show
and if you've ever watched it you know that there's some
radio gear on top of the desk next to Sheriff Taylor's, right
where Barney Fife normally sits. One of them looks sort of
like a Drake R-4C, but the particular episode I watched
didn't offer a good shot.

Does anyone know what this gear is?

And by the way, what a classic show! Still in wide
syndication forty years after it aired. Compare it to the
crap that's aired nowadays and it really makes you think.

I recall that the radios were used as a prop and a character
used it in one or two episodes. You should get a bette look at
it then. Could be a false memory though.

I have not owned a TV since around 1980 but I have been
rethinking that as there are news channels and Discovery,
History channels that I have watched when visiting relatives.

The sitcoms and weekly TV shows are awful and I can't spending
time watching them.

I use television for 3 basic functions, news, some sports and
all the movie channels cable has to offer. I love movies, but I
will not go to a movie theater. I have a fine movie collection,
and I do enjoy football season. So, I have a couple of nice TV's,
other than that, regular broadcast TV is not worth watching, IMO.

My computer has a DVD player and a big LCD display so that is what
I use to watch movie rentals or I go to the theater.

I have a DSL connection here and have been considering cable for a
broadband connection instead. I could add a TV video card and the
computer could also be the TV. Actually I have two LCD displays so
I could have the TV displayed on one and work on the other.

That's not a bad idea. The LCD display is what all the TV's are
going to now anyway. I'll have say, the project of installing the
vid-card and hooking up would be a fun project too. I could not find
any fault in that idea. Actually if you watch movies on your LCD
display now, may as well watch TV on it too. That could prove to be a
verstile hookup, with a DVD writer. Sounds like fun to me.

I use the cable internet service, their cable TV and their digital
phone system too. It's all on one bill, a big bill, but I like it,
and thats all that matters. Everything is fast, clear and audio is
wonderful.

The broadband is fast, even on my old computer. Although, I was
thinking about buying a new computer this fall. The prices at Comp
USA are pretty good. I was looking at a new Gateway with the Athlon
processor. DVD writer, all the goodies. All I'll have to buy is the
PC, I already have a fine monitor and all the peripherals

Oh, one other thing about TV/Video. I always taped my movies on VHS
untill about a year ago, I bought the Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD recorder.
I love it, and it has the new DVD Ram Tech. But here's the
interesting thing. They make some of the DVD recorders with hard
drives, and you can just store movies right on the drive in the
machine. I thought that would be terrific, but out of my price
range. I just love electronics hobbies. I cant get enough, and when
I get started talking about it, I can't stop myself. So, please bear
with my protracted posts. I bought a new scanner last week, but I
don't want to get started on that, not now...But it's great :-)

I like the high tech electronics too but I don't like a lot of stuff
around and prefer an item perform more than one task if possible.

The new TV are amazing though. My brother just got a 50 inch plasma
display that looks pretty darn good. My 22 inch LCD computer monitor
looks small to me me now.

Problem is I'm not that good at multitasking. I can listen to the AM
radio or short wave radio wile I do work or post on Usenet but I don't
think I could watch TV at the same time.
