How high a freq do you want to go? There are a few "all band- all mode
radios.
The TS-2000 is one. Also the IC-706mk2g, FT-100/d, FT-847, etc...
I use a IC-706mk2g as an all band radio. It receives and works all you
mentioned. It's a very small mobile rig with a detachable faceplate. I
use it both at home and in the car. For a strictly home unit, I'd
probably go with the TS-2000.
The TS-2000 will work 1.2 ghz, and I believe can work full duplex for
the birds.
So can the ft-847...Neither the ft-100 or ic-706 work full duplex, but
will work split. The 706mk2g only goes up to the 70 cm ham band "440
mhz", and receives to 470 mhz. I use it for 460 mhz police. I also
listen to a lot of aircraft, and also copy ACARS with it. One
thing....You'll pay a good bit more for a TS-2000 than a ic-706 or
ft-100. But it's a bigger radio, with more bells and whistles. But any
of them will do what you want to do unless you want to go way high in
freq. Of the ones I mentioned, I think only the TS-2000 covers 1.2
ghz. And I believe that band needs an optional part. I've been pretty
happy just with the little IC-706g. It's pretty decent, and you can
get those new for a little over $700. The TS-2000 will be $1300 plus,
I think, depending if you get the faceplate or not. I wouldn't mind
trying a TS-2000 for a "base" radio. Having all bands, all modes will
spoil you. You can zip-zap-zip anywhere at the flick of a knob. Also,
all my puter programs "SSTV, RTTY, PSK, etc, work on any band any
mode. They make for a kick butt scanner too. Better receivers than
most "scanners". MK
