Here is where Cecil claimed the noise was from individual particles
hitting the antenna:

particle rubs against aluminum antenna and creates triboelectric charge.

a different particle transfers charge to the conductor.

wind movement causes triboelectric noise.

i'm not sure if all 3 of these are the same thing.
