It is fairly simple, Dave. Roger hears voices, though where these voices
originate from is open to conjecture. He doesn't answer his door, doesn't
answer his phone, but he hears voices.
Perhaps his imaginary friend called Michigan and got an imaginary response.
Most likely, though, he was simply responding to those "voices" that torture
his poor, lonely soul.
