If anything is a thing of the past, it is AM DX'ing (much to my
chagrin).
With more and more stations testing IBOC at night, it won't be long now
before all you hear on the AM band at night will be IBOC hash.

How many stations are testing HD at night? I have only heard of a couple
of
very specific tests, such as the WLW and WOR skywave test a few years
ago.

Daytime, night time, anytime... IBOC = QRM

HD is not allowed at night (with a minor exception in deep winter months),
and there is little reason to test at night something that is totally legal
in daytime hours.
