It actually makes no difference whether he uses a two or three conductor
3.5mm plug. Just ensure that the '817's internal keyer is disabled using
the menu, and ensure that your keyer is configured for normal, positive
keying and not grid-block keying (it probably is already set correctly
as grid-block keying is very rarely used nowadays).
