Default CW isn't preventing the modernization of ham radio. Laziness is.

Naw, CW makes it too easy to communicate. CW is for lazy people. Real
hams want to struggle to copy signals through noise and QRM. That's
why they hate CW... it's no challenge!

Or when a couple ops with amplifiers move in a little too close to your
on-going qso. That does make things tough, and then they laugh at you
when you politely ask them to move up the band a little. LOL
