I did take mine apart a couple of years ago, to clean the LCD...........the
original owner somehow got moisture behind the LCD, giving a water stain
type of appearnce. I did notice that there were a couple of light bulbs
behind the panel, but it has been awhile. I've been meaning to replace them
with LEDs.

It's either an electroluminescent panel or vacuum fluorescent panel that

is
part of the LCD stack. You should be able to see it on the schematic and
see where the high voltage goes into the panel. Check to make sure it is
getting voltage before replacing it.
