I've been off the air for several years and am getting back on
finally. I have an MFJ-1278B TNC and have used it with a normal
terminal program on Windows (hyperterm) and Linux (minicom) but don't
have any software anymore that will run on XP or Linux. Is there any
software out there that supports the other modes this TNC will do like
wefax and sstv? I have used it for rtty, cw and packet but don't have
anything that will work with the graphical modes.

Any suggestions? Will any of the sound card software work with a TNC
instead of a soundcard?

I bought one of these some years back. I made the same search you did
and came up empty-handed. I've been happy with Baudot and VHF packet so
never really got too serious about the other modes.

I did hook up the accessory audio I/O on my rig to the soundcard in the
computer, with the intent of making unattended recordings (for AM BCB
DXing - works great!) and using the computer as a voice keyer. Turns
out the same connections are appropriate for PSK31 and other soundcard
modes. Very simple (one transistor, one resistor) serial port
interfaces are possible to let the computer PTT the radio, or you can
even buy one preassembled, and if you don't have a soundcard they're
pretty cheap.

I still use the 1278 for Baudot.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I, too, use it for rtty, packet,
amtor, pactor, etc. but I was looking for a way to use the fax and sstv
modes. It sounds like I might be out of luck, maybe I can find a sound
card program to do those modes. I guess worst case I could find my old
software and load up dos on an old machine if I can still find it all.
MFJ doesn't seem to support it anymore, they don't seem to have any
windows software for it.

Thanks,
