Good AM Medium Wave Receivers?

On the cheap, set up an old Clarion car radio in my 40 x 60 ft metal
quonset. An odd combination of wire dangling about from antenna input
and cross between ant and gnd to the metal shell of the quonset (by
accident) produced stunning reception performance. Equal to and at
times better than any of my $$ receivers (JRC, older Grundig, Pana).

Those older model AM car radios from back in the 1950's and 1960's,I
remember they were good for AM Dxing.I once read an article about using
AM radios in homes.Something about finding or making a metal box for the
radio's cabinet.
I have an old 1950 or 1951 Ford car tube type radio sitting on a shelf
in my shed in my back yard and I own some more older car radios
too,mostly transistor car radios.
Some of those older foreign car radios are pretty good too.

Seems to me that most of those old car radios had a 262 KC I.F. strip for
better sensitivity & selectivity....................GC
