Back in the 70's i had a colinear clr-2,very good antenna about 19' tall
with 3, 9' radials,excellent recieve and transmit,wish i could find
another one.
i had a starduster,good antenna, i didn't like the way it mounted,than
after that i got a shakespeare 18' fiberglass something like the
antron, lost a lot of signals compared to the starduster.also had a super
scanner by antenna specialist,it was 3 vertical elements, you rotate the
signal and not the antenna, not bad,but missed signals compared to the
other antennas. i always wanted to try the astro plane antenna, they
still make them.or the sirio, the one that looks like it's upside down.
the antenna i have now is the i max 2000.not bad i guess, i just want to
try something else.

Best omni antenna was homemade. I had bought a 1/4 wl ground plane and had
it up about 50 ft. I thought it was a good antenna until I was at my friends
house and he had a 5/8 closer to the ground that worked beter than mine. I
had seen a book at school that showed how to match a 5/8ths to coax usung a
coax stub. A homemade 5/8ths was put together using the ground plane for
parts. Antenna worked great for a few months and then it got really quiet. I
found the coax stub had got saturated with water. Replaced the coax stub
with an open wire stub and this worked well for a couple of more years until
I had mechanical problems with the stub. At this time it got replaced with a
coil wound on some acrylic rod that I had come by. Antenna is still in use
today, well it was a year ago last Christmas, by the neighbor I gave it to
in 1973. Nice thing about homemade antennas is they are easily repaired.
