The Australian - HealthHIV cases highest in 10 years
Adam Cresswell, Health editor
October 12, 2006

THE number of Australians being diagnosed with HIV is the highest in 10
years and infections
from other sexually transmitted infections have doubled since 2001.
Experts expressed alarm at the infection rates, saying it could reflect a
growing complacency
over safe sex.

The latest figures, contained in a report to be released today, show 928
people were diagnosed
with HIV last year, a 9.3 per cent increase on 2004 and a 41 per cent rise
on 2000.

John Kaldor, deputy director of the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology
and Clinical Research
at the University of NSW, which compiled the annual report, said the
figures were "a reminder
that HIV is very much with us".

New gonorrhoea cases have doubled since the mid-1990s, rising 11.5 per
cent, to 8015, last
year. Syphilis diagnoses rose 19per cent in five years, from 1851 in 2001
to 2203 last year.

The increases in cases of gonorrhoea and syphilis are, like HIV, largely
confined to gay men
and are an extra concern because having one of these STIs makes it easier
to transmit and
contract HIV.

Chlamydia is now the most commonly reported STI in Australia. Diagnoses of
chlamydia increased
fourfold in 10 years. Just over 41,300 people were diagnosed last year, a
14per cent increase
on 2004.

Indigenous people had 171 cases of syphilis per 100,000 population last
year, compared with
nine per 100,000 for the non-indigenous population. For syphilis, the rate
was 1155 per 100,000
for indigenous people compared with 25 per 100,000 for non-indigenous.

==================

Not for one moment putting down the alarming increase in HIV infections,
which IMHO opinion is a big worry for Australia.

I do note that while the new HIV infections number 928 persons, up 41% in
six years, and they say around 70% were gay people, but they did not break
down the Chlamydia rate of 41,300 infections showing just how many gays
were infected with Chlamydia, seeing that there was an alarming 400%
increase in people who have Chlamydia infections, compared to a 41% increase
in HIV infections.

One has to wonder why the Gay infections were not separated as in the HIV
infection rate? Could it be that most Chlamydia infections are heterosexual?
IE are all those heterosexuals having unsafe sex?

Here in this information sheet for Chlamydia infections in Australia, shows
more woman than me get the disease.

http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/...0178_fm-1.html

In the USA there is an estimated 3 million infections annually and as many
as one in 10 adolescent females test positive for Chlamydia.

So it seems that all those woman are having unsafe sex.............

Now one has to wonder where they get that disease from?

Could it possibly be that the hets are more promiscuous that we are led to
believe here, and having unsafe sex, or are we to believe all those women
got the disease through sleeping with gay guys :-)

Marqueer, do these guys know you?
