Looking for some recommendations on a good digital scanner to purchase.
Anyone have any recommendations??

Portable or base/mobile? Big city or out in the sticks? 700 MHz?
Multi-site system?

How about a straight answer that covers the different options?

Big city (lots of signals)? Stay away from GRE (most Radio Shack
scanners) - the front end is too sensitive.

I have had several GRE/Radio Shack scanners and I feel that they are
not sensitive enough [depending, of course, on the antenna]. I live in
Edmonton, AB..a city of over 1 million so I am not sure if it
qualifies as big with lots of signals as defined above. Certainly not
big if compared to L.A. or New York. My favorite analog scanner is my
Pro-97

Multi-site? Uniden 996 is the only scanner that does it properly so
far. (The Pro-96/2096 sort of does it due to a bug in the firmware.)

700 MHz? Uniden 396 or 996.

Portable? 396 or Pro-96.

Base/Mobile? 996 or 2096.
