Question: RP2100 plus SSB module
Hey no problem here with your curiousity Frank as long as you aren't
offended by my top posting.
I like the looks of the radio and I think I am going to buy one someday
soon. I have heard, and seems Rich will concur, that it sounds good
too. I have a DE1103 and I only use the speaker to listen to at very
low volume to put me to sleep. It sounds horrible otherwise. I listen
to Laura Ingraham and those John & Jay guys from the west coast.
They're on FM here in Boston late at night.
Ok, so back to the RP2100. What I also like about it is that I hear
that it has an IF output jack. I am going to do some experimenting
with precision detectors and filters and sync detectors and so forth.
I think the RP2100 may be a good economical platform for that kind of
work.

Actually, I don't think I said I was going to buy it. I was just
curious about how it works. I apologize if my innate curiosity offends
you thriftyness.

Has anyone tried the RP2100 with the new, remote SSB module? It this
arrangement stable enough for decent SSB operation and is the tuning
ratio low enough without backlash? Any comments on this would be
appreciated. The reviews on the RP2100 by itself seem to be pretty
good considering the price.

I'm trying to figure out the attraction of a shortwave radio that you
have to buy a separate battery powered outboard module in order to
decode ssb. There are receivers available for comparable prices that
have ssb included.
I have the 2100 with the module. For 56 bucks without it I wasn't gonna
complain... it's a good asskicker on MW, has better sensitivity on the whip
than anything else I've had, has really nice audio for program listening and
is plain good looking.
I have the module-had to try it-it works fine but I haven't used it for
extended listening yet. It tunes like any other unit with a generic BFO
control.
I'm sure it works, as many cobbled together projects do. Since there
is a Degen DE1103 and many other radios available for about the same
price that doesn't require the use of 8 batteries plus an outboard
module to decode SSB I guess I don't see the point of the 2100 for ssb
work. It seems like a pieced together arrangement.
