It's true. Of course they have to be able to hear the transmitter from
more than one location to triangulate a location, but with both 14
fixed and an unknown number mobile assets finding something in the US
is not a difficult task once they start looking.

Of course any clandestine (i.e. illegal) transmitter will have to
somehow catch the attention of the FCC, either by the FCC monitoring
stations stumbling onto it or somebody bringing it to their attention.
Of course, the transmitter will need to be active for some period of
time to allow them to pinpoint the exact location.

So, if someone insists on being a pirate radio operator, they are
gambling that they won't get caught... Just like the nuts who think the
posted speed limits are only suggestions and that the lack of Highway
Patrol Officers means anything goes, sometimes get caught.

I for one don't want to loose my ticket. Despite what SC says, I
worked for that Extra...
