Have you looked at FTBasicMMO for the FT-817?

Good evening, Alan.

Thanks for the pointer. Found it, downloaded it, tried it, bought it.
After a few false starts that were fixed by a few sessions of RTFM, it
works great.

As for the IC-706, someone said that you can't program the memories in
that radio. I find that that is ALMOST true, but not quite. You can
program the memories ... barely ... but you can't read them AND you
can't set the PL tone frequency, all you can do is turn PL tones on or
off.

It's the most retarded PC interface to a radio that I've seen in a
very long time.

I don't know what the engineers at Icom were smoking when they
designed that but I'm thinking of calling them to see if they saved me
some. :-)

I am evaluating TRX Manager to write the memories in the 706... there
are some serious limitations there (only a few of which are the fault
of TRX Manager and they're not too hard to work around) but so far it
appears to be the only game in town.

I'm probably going to write a program that reads the CSV files
generated by FTBasicMMO and writes them to the 706, that's probably
the best I'll be able to do with that radio.
