Default Sony ICF-SW30 - No AM

schrieb:

I know it's old but my ICF-SW30 lost it's AM and I was wondering if
anyone had a suggested fix.

One day I turned it on and got nothing but light static on the AM
band. EVERYTHING else works just fine - clock, alarms, sleep timer,
FM, and all the SW bands.

Sounds like something in the MW frontend went belly up. You may be aware
that the rx is single conversion on MW but dual conversion on SW. If
there were weak reception of at least strong locals, I'd suspect a blown
RF amp, but this way I'd guess the mixer is blown, or something less
likely like a disconnected antenna coil or failed tuning voltage
connection (or whatever). Unfortunately I don't have service docs for
this set. Ironically MW is the only band that has decent performance
while not being a pain to tune.

So if it receives like a handbag, does it sound good at least?
