The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. *It doesn't matter
*who* said it, because it's true.
But it's not a need at all... as AM radio serves everyone quite well at
the
present time without HD/IBOC.
Yes, it serves it's aging and declining audience quite well. * If it wants
to survive another 70 years, then it *may* have to change.
IAC, I'm not talking about AM HD. * AM HD seems like a waste of time, like
"AM stereo" was 20 years ago. *I'm talking about FM HD. * FM was originally
designed for high fidelity. * Then we got stereo, a big improvement. * Now
it's time to go digital, another big improvement, with the added side
benefit of more channels in the same bandwidth.
I'd characterize it more as a 'want' on the part of the few, rather than a
'need' of the many.
Don't discount "wants". * The "wants' of the many also outweigh the "wants"
of the few. * *If more people want HD AM than want analog AM then guess who
wins? * If not, then things will stay the same. * That's the thing about
"majority rules".
