Perhaps so, but at least it seems to have cured this newsgroup of the
plague of relevance - almost everything posted here lately is off-
topic and screwball.

The problem is with these HD radio wingnuts. It seems to eat away at
their guts like an acid that some of us don't give a damn about HD
radio....or even about the debate over HD radio. Rather than leave us
in peace to discuss topics that are legitimate in this group, they
continue to troll in the hope getting someone upset and postponing the
eventual (and inevitable) return to legitimate topics. Yawn. Just wake
me up when it's over....lol

I haven't heard a single thing about HD Radio in the mainstream media.
Not BBCWS, but everyday media here in the US. Lots of stuff about
HDTV, mainly because the government in its infinite wisdom is forcing
a switch to HDTV thus rendering several hundred million analog TVs
useless. But nothing about HD Radio.

My guess is that the government isn't about to force a switch and
render a billion radios made since the 1920s junk. It's bad enough
that you can't hear 50s music on old transistor radios anymore, or big
band on old 30s tube radios. When you warm up the black dial Zenith
only to hear the endless yappering of a zillion far right wing
fruitcakes, it ruins the whole experience.

My local big band station recently became The Left Channel. Ad copy:
We know you're listening, the NSA told us. OK, so the average age of
the listeners of the previous format was "deceased". But everybody was
plenty mad that The Left Channel could make more money. AM is dead,
and HD Radio is an attempt to flog it back to life. It won't work,
like AM Stereo didn't work.

At least with shortwave you can still listen to scatter from around
the world. I can recieve BBCWS West Africa stream just fine in
California. If I'm up in the wee hours, I can hear all sorts of cool
music from Asia, including the RFA jammer, which must be the most
entertaining jammer on earth. But BCB AM? Political commentary and
talk in Mexican Spanish. Boring.- Hide quoted text -
