If you can go another $100 to around $400, I'd recommend a Satellit 800.
Make sure you find one with a serial number starting with 82 or greater,
that's the second generation with improvements.

Just wondering . . . . What would be considered a decent desktop model
for a shortwave receiver? I am looking for something under $300 that I
can place on the desketop, to plug headphones into, that will be a decent
