You're absolutely right... the SSM2166 is nothing new. This IC has
been ignored in the marketplace because of its high price. Since I
only build premium electronics in small quanities... I'm not concerned
with that. My products are expensive... but are robust and reliable.
Some people are willing to pay for that... many are not.
As for the pots... you're also right. The production PCB (being
fabricated as we speak) will be using smaller 6mm diameter pots for
the adjustments. The whole unit will be 1.6"x1.6"x0.32"
