Hello All,

New to the hobby and group and just had a quick question....am getting
no am reception in my office...is that typical or am I doing something
wrong? Just purchased a 7600GR; FM comes in fine but was looking
forward to talk radio at my desk.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Dear Chris,

In most office buildings it is difficult or impossible to listen to MW
(AM) broadcasts. Electrical interference from computers, printers,
other electronic components commonly found in offices, and,
especially, fluorescent lighting all conspire to defeat AM reception
in such a location.

About the only way to minimize the interference is to install an
external antenna. I doubt if your company would allow you to actually
install a proper outdoor wire antenna and run the leadin to your desk.
If you are not too far from a window, you could try a Select-A-Tenna
Model M http://www.ccrane.com/antennas/am-an...a-model-m.aspx
which will bring in outside signals to the tunable Select-A-Tenna

and thence to your radio. It itself will work by induction - it needs
only to be placed within about six inches or less from your ICF=-
SW7600GR.

But, frankly, I think your co-workers and/or boss may take a dim view
of all this. Plus this antenna is somewhat costly. Best to try to find
something on FM or just bring in a music player. Take your '7600GR
home with you and enjoy it there. It is one heck of a great receiver.

Best,

Joe
