Gives details of power transmission without wires. This story first seems to
have broken in November last year, but they have moved up from charging
mobile phones to lighting a 60 watt light bulb.
Apparently the system works with efficiencies of up to 40%. Wow! The power
companies must be getting desperate, with low wattage lighting and LCD
displays using so much less power than before. Makes me wonder what the
other 60% is going to be cooking, me or the ozone layer.
Looks like an opportunity for some enterprising entrepreneur types to invent
a more efficient transmission and receiving system - I suggest straightening
out the wire coils and connecting the light bulb directly. That should
improve power transfer efficiency to over 95%.
