Iron Powder Toroid - weatherproof?

Ok, dumb question. Can a Iron Powder Toroid be used outside without
being weatherproofed? Can it be painted with enamel and the used that
way? -Scott, WU2X
If that is a dumb question, that makes two dumb people we have found,
you and I.
I finally settled on a vinyl spray paint, the type found in auto stores
to "restore" vinyl dash boards from the effect of solar rays. I could
find no metal compounds on the list of ingredients and took a chance.
Seems to work just fine. Balun is in an enclosure which keeps most
moisture out, condensation is my major worry.
If I ran high power into the balun--running a high swr, I would begin to
worry about the heat tolerance of the vinyl spray (wire insulation is
high temp enamel.)
I am glad you posed this question, others might have better methods, I
have never thought to ask.
Regards,
JS
