Given that Nextel is involved, and that they're a cellphone provider
which makes extensive use of 800 MHz spectrum, I would guess that
these are "micro-cell" base stations. These are small-footprint
cellphone bases which are used to improve cellphone connectivity in
areas where the signals from the larger cellphone towers can't reach
(due e.g. to topography, or lack of ability to find a location to put
a good tower), or to provide connectivity into the insides of buildings.

Googling around a bit indicates that Alcatel-Lucent has just recently
announced a new generation of these... their CDMA Base Station 2400.
I have no idea of that's the specific model shown in these pictures.


I agree with Dave. In retrospect, those boxes do look a lot like a
miniature version of the remote "repeater" type cellular stations that the
cell-site operators use. Also, that antenna does look like standard
moderate gain 800MHz antennas.
