Maybe your average ham doesn't want to

I disagree. I have run into a large number of PSKrs who have no trouble
ragchewing. Often with an extensive set of preset keyboard macros.... :/

I had a several-minutes QSO on PSK31 and the OM actually thanked me for
_not_ being a "Drive-by QSO." So, the people who are just filling lines in
a logbook aren't the exclusive users.

Just my two cents.

I just ordered a digital squawk box made by AOR. I'm interested in
staying in contact with my wife's mobile when she is "on the road"
hawking the business' wares at quilt fests and the like. Granted, we use
the cellphone most of the time, but there are places in the USA that
still are not covered by such devices, or the system is so overloaded
that you are lucky to get through. (this is my excuse for spending the
money)

I like all kinds of contacts, short, long, etc. I'm not fixated on any
one type of qso.

I want to enjoy the digital technology while it is still new, at least
it is new to me. I felt the same way about RTTY, Amtor, Pactor, Pactor
II and PSK 31 (I haven't used the latter yet).

Hopefully, the alleged improvement in voice communications at low power
will be just what I was looking for. I said hopefully. G
