Seventy-year old Chandler A. Laughlin. who, under the nom de guerre
Travus T. Hipp (pun with travesty intended) gives radio commentaries
on KPIG, KVMR and some other stations mostly in California was
arrested for posession of 4 ounces of pot (he says he has a medical
pot card from CA but he ain't in CA), 3 ounces of peyote, drug
paraphenalia and being an ex-felon in posession of a handgun (which he
says has the broken broken firing pin taped to its side) at his home
in Silver City, south of Virginia City, Nevada.
There had been an investigation into charges he was selling pot to
teens but certainly posession of 4 ounces sounds only like evidence of
personal use. He said it was neighbors with a grudge.
He got out of jail on $46K bond and did his commentary Friday and
Monday, but nothing about the bust, probably on advice of his lawyer.
Laughlin was very much involved in the San Francisco music and radio
scene in the late '60's, helping to open a club in West Berkeley where
the Grateful Dead rehearsed.
His commentaries are somewhat unpredictable, defending Fidel Castro,
one day, but then promoting libertarian positions the next day. One
thing he got right on the mark - it would be easy to conquer Iraq but
very hard to deal with the insurgency.
