Maybe the owner used the Gleem toothpaste method to take scratches off
the display, and it has that faint spearmint/peppermint smell that a
radio seems to retain forever afterwards. I have a Radio Shack Pro-2004
that I bought in 1987 and it still smells from when I used Gleem to take
a scratch out of the display lens a few years later.

It works better than anything I have ever tried, including that eyeglass
scratch fixing crap sold on TV. It's worthless.
