A bad solder joint would be a good first guess. It would be common to all
those issues listed thus far. A component bumped just enough to get it to
make contact. OR a mechanical connection like a ground - disturbed when unit
was disassembled and reassembled.

A few years ago, my own HTX-202 came up with an error code that
indicated that the PLL had failed to lock. I decided to open it up to
take a look, and while I was at it to perform a simple mod intended to
remove a birdie on 146.76.
When I got it open, I took a look, chickened out and carefully put it
back together again. It has worked perfectly ever since -- birdie and all.
I wonder what opening and closing the case has to do with fixing the
control circuitry/software in that little box.
