Ummm, exactly the reason I asked. You say "has always been known for
hype" then follow that with "sometimes it actually does reflect the
quality".....that is why the question was asked. ;-)

I can understand your asking the question and I apologize for the
"flip" answer.

There are some other review sites as well. Just "Google" either

Even though some of these reviews are older, it should immediately be
apparent that, just on the basis of its size, the standalone C. Crane
Twin-Coil Antenna would be totally unable to fit into a radio the size
of the Redsun RP-2100/CCRadio-SW.

I hate to say this, but it appears to me that MW DXing (for which the
Twin-Coil Antenna was designed) may be on its way out. If IBOC becomes
widespread, you can forget about any serious listening on the MW band.
Try it for yourself. With any MW station using IBOC, you will hear
nothing but noise 10 kHz below and 10 kHz above, especially at night.
And if you try to listen to a somewhat distant MW station that is
suffering from selective-fading distortion and you turn on your
synchronous detection circuit (if your radio has one - the Redsun/C.
Crane does not) to eliminate this, just wait until you hear the racket
in the background of the station if it has its IBOC turned on!

In my opinion, MW (AM) IBOC is a total disaster. Should the MW band go
totally digital, what might happen to communications in the event of a
regional disaster? The only AM signals that can reliably reach long
distances, necessary in a country the size of ours, is ANALOG AM. But
I digress ...

From the reviews, I gather that the Redsun RP-2100 in its various
guises is a satisfying radio to its owners. If I were buying one, I
should buy from Universal Radio which sells the Kaito version for
$50.00 less than C. Crane sells its version:

These two radios are essentially identical and, while both have a form
of "twin-coil" ferrite rod MW antenna, it is NOT the standalone C.
Crane Twin-Coil one, regardless of what is in C. Crane's "blurb.".

I myself own one of these C. Crane Twin-Coil Antennas (and it is quite
good) though I do not know how much use it will be in the relatively
near future. I do not own a Redsun RP-2100 (et al.).
